The Project
True Environmental recently completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) for the Ella Elementary School site at 4850 Olivehurst Avenue in Marysville, Yuba County, California. Built in 1939, the school occupies a 41,575-square-foot footprint and serves up to 600 students. The assessment considered potential impacts from three leaking underground storage tank (LUST) sites located adjacent to the property. Screening results showed extremely low soil vapor risk and hazard levels, well below thresholds for health concerns. Initial soil sampling near the restroom facility detected chlordane and dieldrin at elevated concentrations.
After a targeted cleanup and confirmation sampling, chlordane was no longer detected, and dieldrin levels dropped significantly. Risk calculations using the highest detected concentration suggested further review, but when evaluated using the 95% upper confidence limit, the risk index fell below the level of concern. Based on these findings, the site does not appear to have significant contamination from nearby LUST sites or past use. True Environmental recommends a “No Further Action” designation from the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), confirming the property is safe for continued use.
