The Project

True Environmental successfully implemented an innovative in-situ biological water treatment solution at Taseko Mines’ Gibraltar copper-molybdenum mine, 60 km north of Williams Lake, British Columbia.

After conducting a comprehensive Trade-Off Study to address elevated nitrate concentrations in the TSF, True Environmental developed and executed the first-of-its-kind in-situ biological treatment approach in British Columbia. The project scope included laboratory trials, engineering design, geochemical modeling, and full-scale implementation, which was completed in just 20 months from concept to discharge. The innovative solution achieved water quality objectives within 60 days of treatment, processing six times more water volume than conventional membrane-based technologies while eliminating the need for permanent infrastructure and waste generation. The project delivered a 65% reduction in treatment costs per cubic meter compared to ex-situ alternatives, while meeting all regulatory requirements through close collaboration with BC regulators and First Nations.
